Festival of the Arts
The musical and artistic highlight of the
Jubilee Year will be the Festival of the Arts: A 75th Jubilee
Celebration, to be held on April 27th at 2:30pm at the Masonic
Center. Imagine an inner and outer circle: the inner circle, or
in this case the main auditorium of the Masonic Center will be
the site of musical performances. The lobby areas and library
around the auditorium will form the outer circle for the
displays of art.
Edgewood College faculty soloists,
including Jeff Suarez, Trevor Stephenson, Kathleen Otterson,
Joseph Testa, and Karl Lavine will be featured with the Edgewood
Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Blake Walter. Other
highlights include performances by the Chamber Singers, under
the direction of Joseph Testa, and a performance by the combined
personnel of the Wind Ensemble and Campus-Community Band, under
the direction of Julie Dunbar.
Faculty members and alumni of the Edgewood
Art Department will present live demonstrations of their art
media in the Masonic Center’s Library before the concert. During
this wine and cheese reception, concert-goers will have a chance
to mingle with the faculty and artists and observe the art
process. A silent auction of faculty and alumni artwork will
take place later during the concert intermission. Ticket holders
will have an opportunity to submit bids on pieces they would
like to purchase. The winners will be announced at the
conclusion of the concert, and artwork will be taken home at
that time. All proceeds from the art auction will be used for
Art Department scholarships.
A separate formal exhibition of recent
works by the Art Department faculty also will be on display in
the Masonic Center formal inner lobby throughout the afternoon.
Work by Randy Feig, graphic design; David Smith, sculpture and
ceramics; Bob Tarrell, painting and drawing; Melanie Herzog, art
history; Janice Havlena, art therapy; and works by adjunct
faculty will be presented. Traditionally, Edgewood faculty
exhibit in the campus’ DeRicci Gallery on alternate years, and
this special Jubilee exhibition will preview the Fall ’03 group
show.
