Details about Kick-Off Weekend - Friday
The weekend of September 27-29, 2002, marks
the Edgewood College 75th Anniversary Jubilee Kick-Off and we’ve
planned a grand celebration that has something for everyone. We
hope our alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and neighbors will
join us as we begin a year-long celebration.
The three-day kick-off begins with several
alumni events including an alumni art exhibit on Friday,
September 27. The Emerald Club, for Edgewood College alumni who
graduated prior to 1953, will host a luncheon on the 27th. The
luncheon honors and promotes camaraderie among alumni who
graduated over 50 years ago.
Later in the evening is the annual Alumni
Association Awards dinner. Friends and alumni of the College
will gather to celebrate the recipients of this year’s awards
which include: the Professional Distinction and Achievement,
Recent Alumni, Volunteer Service, and the James A. Ebben
Presidential Award. The dinner will honor alumni successful in a
variety of fields and is open to everyone. Also in the evening,
as part of the College’s Family and Friends Weekend events for
parents of current students, Madison’s Comedy Sportz will
perform.

Details About Kick-Off Weekend -
Saturday
On Saturday, September 28, the campus will come alive with a
variety of academic and festive events and exhibits, as Edgewood
plays host to over 1,000 visitors. The day begins with prominent
speakers from the world of Education, Business, and Nursing
discussing current issues.
Visitors can be engaged in history
scavenger hunts and campus tours. Historical displays can be
seen in College facilities. A Yahara Watershed exhibit will be
in the Sonderegger Science Center.
For the active set there will be a
volleyball tournament in the Todd Wehr Edgedome and a 3-on-3
basketball tournament in the Regina Parking lot. Also, don’t
forget to take part in the fun in the game tent. You may get a
chance to “splash” one of your favorite instructors in the dunk
tank, too! Food and live entertainment will be available
throughout the day.
When you’re hungry and thirsty head over to
the beer garden for a frosty mug, a pig roast and live
entertainment. Music spanning all tastes from jazz to blues, and
big band to rock will grace the Edgewood College main stage. And
in between, Wayne the Wizard will delight audiences with his
sleight-of-hand tricks.
A historical video, highlighting a number
of moments in Edgewood College’s storied history, will be
presented by MEG Communications in the afternoon, and a new
history of the College, written by Sister Mary Paynter, OP, will
be available for purchase.
In the evening the fun doesn’t stop as the
Red Hot Horn Dawgs take center stage. The ‘Dawgs are a local
blues band with 12 horn players including several members of the
College community. They are sure to keep the early-fall chill
away with their unique sizzle and sound.
